Green, white, oolong, matcha, and more, whatever your go-to tea, it’s best shared with friends. Grab your pals, raise your pinkies, and head to one of these popular tea houses for a tea party.

Seattle, Washington

While in the Emerald City, make your way up north to the Ravenna neighborhood and sign up for afternoon tea at Queen Mary Tea Room. Since 1988, this charming spot has offered well-thought-out tea experiences; from its elegant English bone China, to dainty lace accents. Tea complements homemade dishes like orange-cranberry scones and glazed strawberry tea bread with Chantilly cream at Afternoon Tea service, which is served all day.

San Francisco Bay Area, California

San Francisco offers a variety of tea shops and teahouses. Gather a group and reserve a tea party at Lovejoy’s Tea Room on Church Street. For a group of eight or more, the High Tea or Queen’s Tea service includes a two-hour seating and an assortment of bite-sized sandwiches, scones, and crumpets. Song Tea & Ceramics not only offers eight types of teas from eight different regions, but also gorgeous handmade ceramic tea pots and other tea-themed accouterments.

In nearby Oakland, California, tap into your inner Downton Abbey at the Pardee Home Museum, which offers tours and tea service in its elegant dining room—small bites include tea sandwiches, chicken salad in pastry puffs, scones, and more—or take your tea outside in the gardens.

Boulder, Colorado

Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse in Boulder, Colorado, is a serious must-see for any tea lover. Not only is the teahouse itself a stunning structure, but it carries a great story, too. Built to honor the sister-city relationship between Boulder and Dushanbe, Tajikistan, over 40 artisans came together to create the distinctly Tajik elements of the teahouse, which opened in 1987. Today you can sample from roughly 100 varieties of tea, plus specialty dishes like plov (a traditional Tajik rice dish) and Ethiopian braised beef. Insider tip: The house’s Dim Sum Tea Time, with tea-infused dim sum dishes, is so popular, it usually books up months in advance.
