With the Appalachian Mountains, country roads and bluegrass, it’s hard to pass up on a road trip throughout Kentucky. Explore the state when you drive along seven of Kentucky’s most scenic roads.

Lincoln Heritage Scenic Byway

This scenic drive winds through small towns located right in the heart of bourbon country and civil war history. The 72-mile drive takes about three hours to navigate but plan a few extra hours into your trip if you decide to make stops along the way.

Duncan Hines Scenic Byway

Named after the man behind the cake mix, the 80-mile Duncan Hines scenic byway begins and ends at historical marker #1831, right outside what used to be Mr. Hines home and office. The byway passes through Mammoth Cave State Park, a great place to stop thanks to its 400 miles of underground passages. Fun fact: Mr. Hines wasn’t just passionate about baking – he wrote an extensive collection of travel books throughout his life.

Big Lick Loop

Take in panoramic views of the North Fork River, Big Lick Hollow, the towns of New Haven and Carrollton when you drive on rural Kentucky’s Bick Lick Loop. Be sure to pack a pair of hiking boots so you can stop along the way to get up close and personal with nature.

Elk Creek Winery Loop

This road will take you through rolling hills, winding roads, farmlands and small towns to get to Elk Creek Winery, a local vineyard that prides itself on growing, producing and bottling its wine.

Woodlands Trace

This 43-mile National Scenic Byway runs from Grand Rivers, Kentucky to Dover, Tennessee. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive, longer if you want to stop to enjoy blossoming trees and flowers in the spring, a canopy of green in the summer and colorful foliage in the fall.
