Millions of homes light up the night sky every December, transforming neighborhoods and cities. Many of these displays are impressive enough that families will travel to see them. Here are a few of our absolute favorites.

1. Candy Cane Lane- Woodland Hills, California

This spectacular display is put on by a group of neighbors at Lubao and Oxnard streets in Woodland Hills, California begins on the second Saturday in December. A tradition since 1952, each year Candy Cane Lane transforms eight square blocks of the city with lights, decorations, and artificial snow.

2. Blossoms of Light, Denver Botanical Gardens, Colorado

Every holiday season, Blossoms of Light turns most of the Denver Botanical Gardens’ 24-acres into a true winter wonderland. This family-friendly event includes a 360-degree immersive experience with millions of sound-reactive, animated lights.

3. Nights of Lights, St. Augustine, Florida

Few things bring more cheer than when Nights of Lights blankets approximately 20-blocks of St. Augustine, Florida’s historic district in twinkly white lights. Head to the Bridge of Lions for the perfect photo opportunity as the lights sparkle along the water.

4. Glittering Lights, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Nevada

Bundle the kids into the car to drive through more than 2.5 miles of jaw-dropping lights. With over 500 animated displays made from more than 3 million LED lights, there’s sure to be a little magic for everyone.

5. River of Lights, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Held each year at the Albuquerque BioPark Botanic Gardens, New Mexico’s largest walk-through light show features the magic of millions of twinkling lights and nearly 600 holiday displays. Be sure to visit on a Wednesday this winter for free holiday-themed nature crafts!

6. Trail of Lights, Austin, Texas

Celebrating its 55th year in 2019, Trail of Lights in Austin, Texas is a community-wide holiday tradition of displays and performances. And don’t forget the lights! With more than 2 million lights, 40 displays, and activities for the whole family, this is one of the largest annual events in Austin.

7. Light Up Your Holidays, Portland, Maine

Starting in November each year, the city of Portland, Maine illuminates Congress Street, Commercial Street, and three iconic downtown parks with brilliant color thanks to a partnership with the artist Pandora LaCasse.
