Salzburg has just under 150,000 inhabitants. For a metropolis, that’s not very much. Vienna, with a population of almost 1.7 million, does more justice to this description. But the impression is deceptive, and the city at the foot of the Eastern Alps does not have to hide at all. Salzburg is a real experience in all respects!

To the side of the Salzach River is a mosaic of ornate buildings, dating from the Baroque and Classicist periods. Directly behind it is the breathtaking mountain landscape that regularly makes for sensational panoramic shots in photo albums. Not to forget, the rich influence of classical music that characterizes the city to this day. This is also thanks to the most famous inhabitant of Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The work and significance of the musical prodigy reverberate to this day.

A city with historical appreciation

A city with a historical appreciation

But where to start in a city that enjoys such esteem from a historical point of view alone?

At the hottest time of the year, summer, the Almwelle is a successful starting point. Specially designed for surfers and paddlers, everyone is allowed to try their hand here, in the Gneis district – whether beginner, advanced or professional. Thus Salzburg has caught up with Munich, where inner-city surfing has been popular for 20 years. Those who don’t want to surf and get wet will find suitable alternatives by walking or cycling along the Almkanal.

Many of the open-air cinemas in Salzburg are certainly also a visual highlight. Here, films have a wide variety of programs that focus on being shown in the open air. Thanks to the latest technology and sound production, the films can all be seen in the highest resolution and thus provide enthusiasm for many film lovers at different locations. Especially on balmy summer nights, the open-air cinemas are a great place to spend a relaxed evening in an informal atmosphere.

The Salzburgring is also laid-back and exuberant – but damn fast! When big car brands are not presenting their latest creations, everyone who wants to has the opportunity to race around the track and put the pedal to the metal. In the neighboring district of Koppl, you will find the “Manro,” a museum in which classic old-timers and speedsters are exhibited. From Ferrari, Jaguar and Mercedes to Maserati, everything is there. One of the gems is a model of the legendary Ford A, one of the very first assembly line cars. One thing is certain: the hearts of motorsport fans beat faster here!

1.42 meters – that’s the width of the smallest house in Salzburg! In the tiny attic room, you’d better duck down – if you don’t, you run the risk of permanently bumping your head and suffering a bump or two. Despite this, or perhaps because of its size, the house has something special about it. The magnificent gargoyle on the roof is in the shape of a dragon, the charming brick facade from the 19th century, and the wooden entrance door, all add to its charm.

Visitors to Salzburg discover new, exciting places every time they visit!
