Summer fun for many travelers means sun, fun and sand. While it’s fun to bring souvenirs like postcards and photos back home with you, it’s better off to leave the sand at the beach and not in your car or suitcase. Use these simple tips to learn how to pack your suitcase after a day at the beach.
Suitcases are great to travel with, but not the best for a day at the beach. Instead of opting to bring luggage or a purse with, use an open mesh laundry bag as your beach bag to keep your belongings, like sunglasses, sunscreen and even books, in. This way, most of the sand will fall right through the small holes as you pack up after your day in the sun is over. Once you get back to your car, lay out an old bedsheet in your trunk, shake out your mesh bag in the parking lot and place it on the sheet. This way, if any sand is leftover it will get on the sheet and not in your trunk. Before you head back home, carefully tuck the sheet into your luggage for a sand-free suitcase.
Sneakers and closed-toed shoes may be fashionable, but they can quickly fill with sand when walking along the beach. Instead, opt for open-toed flip flops and shoes so sand can quickly fall off. If you do find yourself with sand inside your shoes, use a vacuum to catch any stray sand and then throw them in the wash, if the material allows. Do you plan on bringing your furry friend to the beach? Place rubber bottom booties on your dog to prevent sand from getting in their paws.
If your beach offers a beachside shower, be sure to rinse off head-to-toe making sure not to forget your feet. After you make your way back to your car, dry off with a towel. Travel tip: If there is still sand leftover on your feet or hands after the walk back to the car, sprinkle baby powder on your skin and the sand will brush right off.
