Ontario is the second-largest province in Canada and is filled with lively cities, beautiful parks, and mouthwatering local cuisines. But that is barely touching the surface of what Ontario has to offer.

With a Best Western Hotel and Resorts to call home base, here are several must-sees in Ontario to add to your itinerary:

Go into town

Kitchener/Waterloo

The Waterloo region – including the twin cities of Waterloo and Kitchener – is the perfect spot for staycations or weekend getaways. Take a swing at one of the dozens of golf courses in the region, grab a slice of homemade pie at Anna Mae’s Restaurant and Bakery, or shop for fresh produce and handmade crafts at St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market – Canada’s largest year-round farmers and flea market.

Stratford

Known for the Stratford Festival, the city is home to charming architecture, beautiful scenery, delightful people, and an overflow of art and creativity. Visitors can explore the city through several walking tours that lead you to insta-worthy spots, gardens, and all things chocolate. And for those who love a food experience, check out Stratford’s Al Fresco 2021 – an expanded outdoor dining experience with several local restaurants.

Get outside

Algonquin Provincial Park

Canada’s oldest provincial park, Algonquin Provincial Park, covers nearly 5,000 miles of land. This four-season park offers a new experience every time you visit, though it’s known as being a premier fall destination with its weather and colors. Hiking is a given, with most of its trails ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete. And no worries if hiking isn’t your thing, the park is also known for its birdwatching as nearly 300 types of birds have been recorded within the park. In addition, guests can try fishing, canoeing, or paddling on the lake, or cross-country skiing and snowshoe during the winter months.

Arrowhead Provincial Park

Though Arrowhead Provincial Park provides plenty to do during its spring, summer, and fall seasons, it’s the winter months that bring visitors from all around. Known for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and tubing, guests come to have a magical winter wonderland experience.

Ottawa Greenbelt

Created in the 1950s to protect rural land, the Greenbelt consists of 200,000 hectares of green space, including forests, streams, sand dunes, and more. The area protects and sustains the areas’ natural biodiversity, but it allows visitors and locals access to the great outdoors. Enjoy hiking and walking trails, dog walking, in-line skating, horseback riding, cycling, boating, and more.

Things to do

  • We can’t talk about Ontario without mentioning Niagara Falls. A shared territory between Canada and U.S., this star attraction isn’t one to miss. Catch a view of the falls from one of the many viewpoints, but if you have more time, we recommend expanding your experience. Stop by the Niagara Glen Nature Centre for some hikes with views or Niagara Falls History Museum for a deep dive into the history of the falls, including the Battle of Lundy’s Lane.
  • Explore Toronto’s Entertainment District, where food experiences, live performances, and premier attractions come to life. One of the favorite theatres to catch a show in is the botanically themed auditorium, Winder Garden Theatre, part of the world’s last operating double-decker theater known as the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre.
