Go into town
The capital of Maine, Augusta, is the place to visit for the best mixture of history and culture, nature and food. This national park is one of the top 10 most-visited national parks in the U.S., and rightfully so. Located on Mount Desert Island, the park is nearly 50,000-acres of beautiful views, hiking trails, lakes, and wildlife. It’s hard to narrow down a to-do list when visiting, but key must-sees are Cadillac Mountain which is the highest point on the U.S. east coast, Great Long Pond for a day of aquatic fun, and Thunder Hotel, a natural inlet in the coastal rocks which is known for bringing the waves.
