Road trips are more than a fun way travel for many, they are a way of life. Traditions and memories are made on the road for families around the world. Whether your next trip is taking you down the road or across the country, use these seven road trip hacks to make your trip easier.

1. Hack your snacks

Some say the best part of a road trip are the road trip snacks. After stocking up on your favorites at your local grocery store, use a shower caddie or food-safe tackle box to organize your snacks.

2. A clean car is a happy car

Avoid sticky, and sometimes crumb-filled, cup holders by placing cupcake liners at the base of your car’s cup holders. This way, if drinks spill or snacks get thrown into the holder, you can easily pick up the cup holder and contain the mess.

3. Keep kids occupied and organized

Kids are known for bringing any and everything along with them on vacation. Organize their belongings by placing a mesh shoe organizer on the back of the driver and passenger seats to keep your kid’s toys at arm reach and off the floor.

4. Use a cereal container as a no-spill trash can

Before you leave on your next trip, stop by the supermarket and pick up a reusable cereal container. Place a small garbage bin in the container, then place the lid on top. When you have an empty wrapper or banana peel, open the “pouring” portion of the container for a mess-free travel trash can.

5. Find your car in a parking lot

It can be easy to lose track of where you’ve parked your car, especially if you’re at a theme park, mall or other large parking lot. Use your smart phone to drop a pin every time you park and easily find your car in a parking lot or garage.

6. Don’t Be bored, play a board game

Keep kiddos entertained in the back seat with their favorite board games. To make the games “car-proof” glue magnets to any moving pieces and roll dice in a clear Tupperware container. Not only will it make the drive go by faster, but it will keep tiny game pieces from rolling beneath and in-between seats.

7. Silence the “are we there yet?”

Laminate maps or add a map to your child’s iPad so they can keep track as you ride along. Not only will this reduce the amount of times you’ll hear “Are we there yet?”, but it will teach your kids how to read a map and road signs.
