Chet:
Oh hey, y’all Chet here. So as the pandemic raged on many of us had to stay home. No Travel but plenty of time to sit around and pick up some well uh, less than helpful habits.
I even had to postpone a very big birthday but now I think it’s time to break out of sitting around and sipping at home and uh make up for some lost time.
And so… I’m heading with my friends to Kentucky to hit the Bourbon Trail. [Music]
Concierge:
Here’s your room and thanks for being a Diamond Select Number. Thank you.
Chet:
All right, better hydrate for tomorrow. [Music]
Chet:
So we have made it to The GLō by Best Western here in Lexington, Kentucky. Look around, I mean this hotel is pretty awesome. It’s got really artistic, modern, trendy boutique vibe.
We’re getting settled in, we got a little bit of time left in the day so let’s go find some dinner (whispered) and probably some bourbon too. [Music]
Chet’s Friend (Male):
It’s a little overwhelming in here, in a very good way. Get a lot of options.
Chet:
I can’t find the menu, is it, OH it’s this entire wall! Hey, cheers!
Chet’s Wife:
Oh, so good!
Chet:
So you all know it’s not just about good bourbon in Bourbon Country but it’s also about really, really, good food. Bacon in a glass with peanut butter to dip in. I think we are in heaven. [Music]
Chet:
We better get a good breakfast. It’s gonna be a long day.
Chet’s Friend (Male):
It’s gonna be a good day.
Chet:
All right y’all. So this is the Bourbon Trail, what we’re gonna do is just wind around. All the Bourbon distilleries you’ve heard of are pretty much right here in this part of the country.
First stop is the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
All right, so we’re actually in one of the warehouses and it smells amazing in here. It gets hotter at the top of this so you get some of uh faster, less expensive bourbons. And then down here on this floor is the Pappy Van Winkles’. It doesn’t get as hot, so you got to age it long. Put a spigot on that one, I’ll take it right now. [Music]
It’s so pretty, it’s almost unbelievable.
Chet’s Wife:
It makes me want bread, actually.
Chet:
Does it? [Music]
Chet:
You know sometimes in life you just have to slow down and smell the roses. Which surprisingly smells exactly like bourbon. [Music]
Chet:
All right y’all, a little break from bourbon to explore Kentucky’s other claim to fame, horses. So, professional horses, professional jockeys. [horn sound] Let’s race! [Music]
Chet:
That man knows a lot about horses. You can tell the hat just says horse knowledge. [Music]
Chet:
Mint Juleps and Churchill Down. It doesn’t get more Kentucky than this.
Group:
Cheers!
Chet:
That’s good!
Chet’s Friend (Male):
It’s not bad.
Chet:
All right, so when you travel you gotta find the signature dish of the place you’re in and in Kentucky, that my friends is the hot brown. It’s like an open-face turkey sandwich covered in [bleep]. It’s hot, hot brown! [Music]
Chet:
Remember Jeff Bagwell? If I try to do that in this gift shop I’m gonna break a mirror.
So we’re headed to a place called distilled which was highly recommended. We’ll see if it lives up to the hype.
Porcini rubbed fillet. I don’t even know what that means. [Music]
Chet:
How could we come to Kentucky without paying the Pappy a visit?
Chet’s Friend (Male):
You can’t be so fast with it. You gotta take your time.
Chet:
Yeah, okay. Alright, I was rushing into it. Okay. Oh, wow! That’s really good.
Chet’s Friend (Male):
That’s good stuff.
Chet’s Wife:
It smells great. [Music]
Chet:
You know at the end of the day it’s not about the bourbon, it’s about the friendships and the fellowships that you make along the way. Here’s to good bourbon and good friends. Guys, and here’s to the travels that bring them together.
