When you picture a motorcycle rally, you probably envision drunken, hairy, leather-clad men riding rampant on loud choppers with scantily clad women dancing in their wake. Picture instead a bucolic, natural lakeside setting. Mature motorcyclists in matching tactical gear sit in a classroom discussing motorcycle safety. Exhibitors promote ecologically friendly riding experiences. Good natured skills competitions and custom motorcycle judging events take place in peaceful meadows. Evening concerts from classic rock stars and cover bands raise a fun atmosphere. A gigantic vendor area offers motorcycle goods and services at attractively discounted prices. Families wander together, sharing their love for their favorite hobby with other like-minded families. This is Americade, the annual all-brands motorcycle touring rally that is being held from June 4 to 9 in the village of Lake George in the heart of New York’s Adirondack Mountain Range.
Registration for Americade is now open. Day passes start at $18.69 per person, and include access to all factory demos, entry to the Americade Expo and Americade HQ and access to DirtDaze Adventure Bike Rally. Dinner Boat Cruises start at $44.00 with dinner. Guided rides start at $30; unguided rides start at $10.
The Classic Pass ($79.00) runs for the whole event and includes all of the access of a Day pass, plus a drawing ticket to win a 2018 Indian Scout Sixty; entry to the Friday Night Spectacular, Fireworks and Reward; Choice of a dessert or drink at the Monday or Friday celebration; free motorcycle safety training; and an official Americade pin, patch and decal. A Premium Pass ($119.00) includes all that plus one included activity and a $20 voucher to the Official T-shirt Booth at the vendors Expo. A Platinum Pass ($149.00) piles on an additional included activity.
I’ve been going to Americade for years. Lake George is a great place, just 200 miles north of New York City but a world away in terms of environment and attitude. It’s a relaxed place with beautiful, smooth roads that snake through wooded parkland and over rolling hills. The ride up to Lake George from Manhattan is one of my favorites on the East Coast, with dozens of possible side trips along the way.
Best Western Hotels & Resorts has nine properties within 50 miles of the village of Lake George, New York, including the BW Signature Collection Killington Mountain Lodge in Killington, Vermont – a beautifully sited hotel in the Green Mountains.
Plan a ride to Americade today or visit the Lake George area any time. It’s a fantastic summer spot.
