Minneapolis, Minnesota is ranked the 17th happiest city in America, and with plenty of things to do, it’s no surprise to see why. From the famous Mall of America, complete with an indoor theme park, to biting into a “Juicy Lucy” to catching a game at Target Field, there’s plenty of family-friendly activities to do with 24 hours in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In partnership with Meet Minneapolis, let’s explore all there is to do in this vibrant city.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy a trip to Mall of America. With over 500 stores and nearly half of its visitors being tourists, Mall of America is a huge, local attraction that is a must-do for any family. After perusing the hundreds of stores, it’s time to take a break for more family fun. From the West Parking Lot, walk towards the center of the Mall of America to find the nation’s largest indoor theme park, Nickelodeon Universe®.

Spanning 7 acres, with 27 thrilling rides, there’s a ride for everyone, from little ones to teens. Teens will love the Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge, which includes 90 degree drops and turns, or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock, which allows you to flip and twist in the air. For more mellow rides, check out the El Circulo Del Cielo, a ferris wheel that takes you up over 7 stories high so you can see the whole park, or Ghost Blasters, where you and your loved ones can shoot ghouls on this glow-in-the-dark haunted ride. Families can choose to purchase the Unlimited Ride Wristbands or if you only want to try a ride or two, Point Passes allows you to pay per ride.

Whether you are on a road trip or arriving by plane, the first thing many visitors do when they land in Minneapolis, Minnesota is make a trip to Matt’s Bar. “Fear the Cheese!” is Matt’s Bar motto, and the small dive has been a Minneapolis landmark for over 60 years. They’re known as the creators of the original “Juicy Lucy”. What is a “Juicy Lucy”? It’s a hamburger patty stuffed with cheese, so that when you slice it open: gooey, melted cheese explodes from the burger.

Popular with locals and tourists alike, Amy Feriancek, General Manager, admits that the recipe hasn’t changed, despite decades passing. “Same blend and ratio of fat, and same seasoning,” she says, attesting to the timelessness of the recipe. Indeed, the recipe has brought in the Travel Channel, Thrillist, Food & Wine, and more, speaking volumes to the deliciousness of their Juicy Lucys. The family-owned venue has a close-knit staff and regulars that make up the Matt’s Bar family, so stop in for lunch or for dinner to grab a bite.

Located a short walk from your stay at your Best Western Plus The Normandy Inn & Suites, is  Target Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins. Food and drinks can be found at every turn in the stadium. Want a twist on the traditional hot dog? Try Kramarczuk’s. Kramarczuk’s is a family-owned, award-winning vendor doling out Polish sausages with bacony sauerkraut. The beloved local favorite has been sharing their sausages for over sixty years, and you can find them in sections 101, 112, and 312.

And adults deserve a little fun, too. The signature “Beer Bat” will cool you off on a hot day, and the long, large ‘bat’ cup is a fun souvenir to take home after the game. Pick up a “Beer Bat” at sections 101, 112, 118, or 130.

Target Field hosts themed events quite often, so be sure to check their calendar when booking seats for a game. From concerts to Country Night to Harry Potter Night to Marvel Super Heroes Night, there’s lots of ways to celebrate and support the Minnesota Twins.
