Downtown Denton Square has been a hub for commerce since the 1800s and still is today. With charming restaurants and shops, support local as you amble down the mural-lined streets. From discovering the purple door to the purple building, you’ll have a great time adventuring in Denton, Texas.

Recycled Books Co.

Known as the “big, purple building on the Square” and housed in the former Wright Opera House, Recycled Books & Records is the largest used and rare bookstore in Texas. Boasting half a million books, the store has been around since 1983, and you literally can get lost in the stacks of books, records, cds, dvds, and memorabilia. From a whole shelf dedicated to Shakespeare, to a towering shelf only for “Tall People” to an “Angels Books” section slotted next to the “Cult Books” section, there’s something for everyone.

Juliet’s Jewels

“May all beings have happiness and create the causes for happiness,” is Juliet’s Jewels’ motto. Enter the cozy, colorfully painted house to discover good energy and good vibes only in this worldly boutique. Juliet began her journey in 2001with the goal to help others, and she sources her products straight from India, Thailand, and Nepal, visiting vendors and hand-picking items several times a year to bring back to Denton, Texas.

Discover the Purple Door

As a secret city landmark, engage in the fun of discovering the purple door when you’re at Downtown Denton Square. Perfect for photo ops and selfies, this elusive door is worth scavenging for.

Komodo Loco

“Asian fare, Texas twist” is the Komodo Loco’s kitchen’s philosophy and this non-traditional Japanese restaurant does just that – serving up fun, playful dishes that make regulars and visitors come back again and again. From the Bao Buns to the saucy, Fried Rice, to the Ponyo Roll, your taste buds will thank you for coming. Don’t forget to get a pic in front of the “We Should Hang Something Cool Here” blue, neon sign in the back of the dining room for the ‘gram, too.

Oak St. Drafthouse & Cocktail Parlor

Located across the street from Komodo Loco and revered by locals as having their favorite outdoor patio, Oak St. Drafthouse & Cocktail Parlor brings people together with their beautiful beer garden. Beer lovers rejoice, because there are over 70 beers on tap with the first 24 brewed in Texas. Grab a brew and a seat by the “Greetings from Denton” mural to enjoy a lovely day in Denton, Texas.
