Michigan has over 400 breweries and ranks 8th in the nation in breweries, according to the Michigan Brewers Guild. When visiting this beer loving state, you’ve got to try some craft brews straight from the tap. Here’s a few of our favorite breweries in Michigan.
Ever drink beer from a farm brewery? Founded in 2018, Waypost Brewing Co., named “Waypost” to mean a gathering place for travelers, is located on a 58-acre farm, converted from a previous U-pick farm, by co-owners and partners, Hannah Lee and Chuck Steinhardt. The couple combined their backgrounds in wine and beer to produce farmhouse-style beers, including craft lagers and saisons. With ripe fruits like, blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, to use as ingredients for their recipes, the results are unique beers with fresh flavors. Bring a picnic and watch the geese swim on while you sip on a Garden Sour or Super Saison.

The original Lansing Brewing Co. opened in the late 1800s and was a watering hole for the community. While Prohibition caused the original Lansing Brewing Co. to close, now, nearly a decade later, the brewery is resurrected and is still serving cold beers to the community, just like it had nearly 100 years ago. Located in the Stadium District, the brewery has a huge patio to enjoy on a summer day after a game, and while you can’t order the original Amber Cream Ale that made Lansing Brewing Co. famous, you can order the brewery’s present-day take on the Amber Cream Ale, which is a must-do.

If you want a change of scenery from the UMich campus, head to the west side of Ann Abor to drink and dine with the locals at The Session Room. While there are a number of breweries in Ann Arbor, The Session Room always delivers in relaxing vibes and good times. Located in an old brick warehouse, the industrial feel and lively, welcoming atmosphere leaves little to be desired. With over 70 beers on tap, there is a beer for every type of palette, and with a beer garden to boast, too, The Session Room makes for a great date night, or good time with friends.

Detroit, Michigan has music running through its veins, and at Motor City Brewing Works is no exception to the rule. John Linardos, owner of Motor City Brewing Works, released “Ghettoblaster Volume 1” in the early ‘90s and “Ghettoblaster Voume 2” in the early 2000s. All tracks were recorded at the brewery and as the brewery attests, “Some said it couldn’t be done, others said it shouldn’t be done, but in the spirit of all things good in the D- we did it anyway.” The compilation got national attention and acclaim for representing the roots of Detroit’s music scene. Today, you can listen to the series online, and go into the brewery to order the Ghettoblaster Ale, also known as “Beer You Can Hear”.
